KATHMANDU, Jan 11: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has said the Nepalis remained sovereign forever due to the bravery and sacrifice of the ancestors.
Giving a message on the occasion of National Unity Day and 297th birth anniversary of modern Nepal's unifier King Prithvi Narayan Shah, President Bhandari said it was not possible to remain sovereign if then principalities were not unified into modern Nepal.

President Bhandari further extended tribute to late king Prithvinarayan Shah for his notable contribution in unifying the nation. She further shared that Prithvinarayan Shah has given various tactful and insightful suggestions to Nepali that help us become independent and dignified in the international arena.
Prithvinarayan's sayings are important even to move towards self reliant economy. She also expected that the unifier Prithvinarayan Shah's views will be inspirational to lead the nation towards prosperity as the incumbent government's goal of 'Prosperous Nepal: Happy Nepali'
