The Committee at the World Kabaddi Federation (WKF) responsible to oversee the world level event is satisfied with its preparations.
“85 per cent of the total work has been completed,” Gyan Dev Hatuwal, the co-ordinator of the main organizing committee coordinator told myrepublica.com.
However, the prolonged rainy season has troubled the organizing committee. “The grounds are wet and unplayable, but we are trying to cover the playing area using tents to avoid rain disruption during competition,” Hatuwal added.
Hatuwal, who is also a WKF member, replied sternly on a query about Nepal Kabaddi Association’s (NKA) accusations over authenticity of the tournament. “NKA president and a few members are trying to make this event a failure, but we will make this tournament a grand success,” he said.
NKA president Sunilraj Karnikar along with some members had denounced the tournament citing the organizers have neither sought permission with NKA nor informed National Sports Council (NSC) about the event.
But the organizers refuted the claim and said that they have fulfilled every requirement.
Along with host Nepal, the United States, India, Malaysia, England, Canada, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Argentina and Pakistan’s men’s and women’s kabaddi team will participate in the events - conventional kabaddi, inside the ring and beach kabaddi.
Altogether more than 250 players are expected to participate in 27 events of the championship.
“This is biggest tournament to be held in Nepal outside the capital.” Hatuwal claimed. “This tournament will be helpful in spreading Nepal’s name all over the world and a big support to promote Nepal Tourism Year 2011.”
