BAGLUNG, July 31: Maya KC, an abandoned woman who is pregnant, has perplexed the doctors at Dhaulagiri Zonal Hospital. According to the medical staff at the hospital, KC is not only mentally ill but also unmarried.

So the question whether or not to carry out abortion on her has left the doctors at the hospital in a great dilemma.[break]

KC, who is 15 weeks pregnant, has not been able to tell her address or the names of her relatives and has been hospitalized for the past three weeks.

Though the doctors say that the woman is not in the condition to take care of a baby, the hospital administration said that it cannot allow the doctors to perform abortion on her until her relatives come in contact.

“The woman must undergo abortion if she is not married,” Sobha Sharma, a staff nurse at the hospital said, adding, “But the permission of the woman and her family members is a prerequisite for abortion.”

KC has said that she learnt about her pregnancy only after being admitted to the hospital. “After we told her that she is pregnant, she has been insisting on giving birth to the child,” said Tarun Poudel, the medical superintendent of the hospital.

The hospital said the woman´s physical condition is stable.

Meanwhile, Krishna Siwakoti, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said that police have started the search for KC´s relatives.
