During his tenure, Pradhan was dragged into controversy after he allegedly issued directive for halting the prosecution of the Maoist cadres implicated in the 2004 murder of Dailekh-based journalist Dekendra Thapa. By constitution, attorney general is the chief public prosecutor and chief legal advisor to the Nepal government.
