Power cuts close 41 per cent medium-scale factories: Report

KATHMANDU, Dec 19: Around 41 percent of medium scale industries have been closed owing to lack of electricity, according to a report.



This was stated in the report prepared by Small Factory Foundation Survey-2066 which was made public Sunday.[break]



According to the survey, there are 32,326 medium scale industries in operation across the country, whose contribution to Gross Domestic Production is 6 percent.



"Among them, 62 percent are based in rural areas and 38 percent in urban area."



The reasons for the closure of these industries, according to the report, are lack of power 41 percent, lack of capital 21 percent, lack of raw materials and market 8 percent, lack of skilled manpower 6 percent and miscellaneous 9 percent.



Among the operational factories, 98 percent are private where 11 percent are women entrepreneurs.
