KATHMANDU, May 12: The reconstruction of houses and physical infrastructure damaged by the April 25 earthquake is expected to cost more than Rs 700 billion, as per the early estimates of the National Planning Commission.

The preliminary study of the NPC shows that 30 percent of the total GDP of the country would have to be spent to rebuild the damaged structures. However, the full extent of the damage is yet to be known and a concrete plan of reconstruction and temporary settlement would be made public by coming Friday, according to NPC Vice-chair Dr Govinda Raj Pokharel.

Speaking at an interaction held at Reporters' Club here Monday, Dr Pokharel expressed the confidence that the World Bank, ADB and donor agencies would help with the reconstruction work as per the priority of the government. RSS
