Poll campaign continues as NA defuses bomb in Ilam

ILAM, Nov 10: UML candidate Subas Nembang continued with his election campaign at Chulachuli VDC in Ilam after a bomb disposal team of the Nepal Army defused a time bomb planted by an unidentified group. [break]



The locals had first caught sight of improvised explosive device (IED) hanging from a grove of bamboo trees near Baljyoti Secondary School at Aitabare in Chulachuli VDC early Sunday.



Former Constituent Assembly (CA) Chairman Nembang was scheduled to address a mass meeting converged in the premises of the school after conducting door-to-door campaigns.



A bomb disposal team of the NA, who has been stationed in the VDC for election security purpose, had defused the IED after they were informed by the locals.



We have safely defused the bomb which was timed to be detonated, said Colonel Subas Jung Thapa, Battalion Commander of Kalidwaj Battalion.



The bomb must have been planted after having seen an immense support for CPN-UML, said Nembang’s aide Lekhanath Khanal.
