KATHMANDU, Sept 30: Former King Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah has said that the political practice of the past one and a half decades has established the inevitability of course correction.
Issuing a video message on the occasion of Dashain, former King Shah said that the Nepali people are going through a tough time as questions have been raised on political leaders due to the fact that they are not able to work according to the people’s expectations.
Shah asked what the situation of the country and its people will be when the greed for power exists in politics. He mentioned that the malpractices and conflicts created in all three organs of the state - legislative, executive and judiciary - have raised serious questions. “Due to this, the citizens of the country are not excited and there has been no hope among the people regarding their future and the future of the country,” he said.

Stating that the political practice of the past one and a half decades has established the inevitability of a course correction, he said, “Today, the country is looking for the right people, system, organization and representation loyal to the country and accountable to the people.”
He also said that whether there isn’t a proper opportunity in the country or lack of searching for those opportunities, thousands of youths are traveling to foreign countries for employment. "On the other hand, there is growing curiosity and concern over the ploys to let in outsiders and ambush the real Nepalis," the former monarch said, "The religions, cultures, and civilization of our country, which is located between two large countries in the world, are being attacked."
Similarly, he said, "Our nationality and history are in the most critical situation. The process of displacing our original religious and cultural beliefs has been accelerated. As the foreign policy becomes unbalanced, the national interest and security are being endangered.”
Shah has also urged the patriotic Nepalis to unite for the protection of the nation, democracy, fundamental values and Nepali unity.
