LAHAN, March 30: The political parties, mainly the major three ones, have expedited the internal preparations in Siraha for the upcoming local level election.

Despite the United Madheshi Democratic Front's ongoing protest in the district with the dominance of Madhesi community, the political parties have started holding election-related activities to steer their cadres and prospective voters.

Nepali Congress (NC) -close Nepal Women Association, recently held provincial level training programme while regular meetings and discussion have been held in all rural municipalities and municipalities across the district to strengthen the organization, according to NC Siraha Chapter President and parliamentarian Ramchandra Yadav.

Selection of candidates, training to cadres and regular meeting and coordination between the cadres and local leaders top the NC's agenda in the district lately.

Yadav said that although the Madhes-centric political parties have been warning of boycotting the upcoming election, other political parties have started preparations amidst the doubts that whether the election would be held.

Although CPN-UML has not been able to hold any formal programme publicly in Siraha following a clash ensued between the UML and Madhesi-Front's cadres in Saptari during the UML's recent Mechi-Mahakali campaign .

CPN (Maoist) central member Harinarayan Chaudhary said party local leaders and cadres are busy holding regular meetings and interactions in view of the upcoming local- level election.

Meanwhile, a large number of youths from the Madhesi communities are seen making their ways to the District Police Office, Siraha after the office issued a public notice for hiring temporary police for the purpose of local-level election. Growing attraction of youths towards the temporary police recruitment for the local election has somehow contributed to the creation of election atmosphere.

Big political parties have started reaching the people's doorsteps in view of the local-level election going to be held first time after 19 years.

Local intellectuals believe that the holding of the election would be easier if the participation of Madhes-centric parties was guaranteed through the constitution amendment.

According to the District Election Office Siraha, 32 political parties including the NC, Maoist-Center, RPP and Madhes-centric parties are registered in the Office from the district. RSS
