Baral fled the scene after shooting Thapa. “We don't know how and why the incident took place,” said DSP Adhikari. “We have initiated an investigation and sent out a team of policemen to hunt down the accused.”
Thapa's body had been sent to Chautara Hospital in the district headquarters for post-mortem. The family of the deceased refused to accept the body at first, however, they received it after DSP Adhikari assured them of arresting the suspect at the earliest.
Thapa was transferred to Sindhupalchowk from Parsa after the magnitude 7.8 earthquake of April 25. They were performing final rites of his grandmother when the earthquake struck. He lost six members of his family--three-year-old daughter, aunt, grandfather, sister and her children--to the earthquake.
Now the only remaining member in the family is Thapa's wife. She has been inconsolable after the incident and fainting time to time.
