Police used force to contain agitators in Surkeht, DPM says

KATHMANDU, Aug 13: Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bamdev Gautam has said that police used slight force just to take the situation under control in Surkhet district after the agitators set the public vehicles on fire.

Speaking at the Legislature-Parliament meeting today, DPM Gautam said that the agitators set the party offices of the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and UCPN (Maoist) as well as damaged the houses of lawmakers Purna Bahadur Khadka and Hridayaram Thani in Surkhet on August 10.


Gautam further said that police personnel were obliged to use force slightly more as the demonstrators encircled the government offices in Jumla by demanding indivisible Karnali region in the new constitution.

During his address, Home Minister Gautam also informed the lawmakers that agitations were held in Nawalparasi, Baglung, Rukum, Kailali and some other districts while a road accident occurred in front of Tri Chandra Campus in the capital city.

Meanwhile, Minister for Forest and Soil Conservation Mahesh Acharya has said that preparations were on for the amendment to the President Chure Tarai Madhesh Conservation Development Committee Act and Forest Act. RSS
