In what is seen as preemptive security measure to ensure peaceful poll environment, the police have started arresting CPN-Maoist cadres on the charge of carrying out poll disrupting activities. [break]
Five CPN-Maoist cadres were arrested on Sunday. They have been charged with involvement in various incidents of vandalism and arson with the aim of disrupting the poll.
Central member of All Nepal Revolutionarily Student Union Padam Chhetri, district chairman of the party Rim Rokka, vice district chair Shiva Shakya are among those arrested.
In Bhojpur, the police have arrested three cadres of CPN-Maoist.
Jiban Rai, secretariat member at State Committee of CPN-Maoist, district committee member of the party Mani Raj Rai and area committee member Bahadur Rai have been detained, according to the Bhojpur police.
Likewise, the police have arrested five cadres of CPN-Maoist including central committee member Krishna Prasad Dhamala on Saturday. Although police have charged him of vandalism, the party have refuted the allegation and said that the administration is plotting against its leaders.
Similarly, CPN-Maoist Ilam district committee member Indra Bahadur Rai has been arrested from his home at Mangalbare VDC-3 on Friday night. Charging him of conducing anti-poll activities and instigating people against the polls, the police had also raided his home. According to police, 11 Maoist cadres have been arrested so far in Ilam.
