Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Jivan Shrestha, chief of Metropolitan Police Circle, Maharajgunj, said police have launched investigation into the case. “Though we have not identified the group yet, we will put them behind the bars at the earliest,” added Shrestha.
Police on Tuesday summoned leaders of Rastriya Shiva Sena Party and interrogated on the case. But the leaders denied the involvement of Rastriya Shiva Sena Party in the attack outright.
“As the protestors were masked, it is difficult to identify them. But we will arrest them soon,” said Shrestha.
The cabbi, Purna Kumar Shrestha, had managed to escape a few minutes after his cab was set on fire. He sustained burn injuries to his face, hands and back while his cab was completely destroyed.
The incident happened as the group was enforcing a general shutdown it had called demanding that 27th of Poush [December 11], the birth anniversary of unifier of Nepal King Prithvi Narayan Shah, be declared a national holiday.
Shrestha, who is undergoing treatment at Susma Koirala Memorial Hospital in Sankhu, said: "Neither the government nor other stakeholders is bothered about bringing the culprits to book.” He also said he has no money for further treatment.
Meanwhile, police have released Sanjeeb Kumar Bohara, a Rastriya Shiva Sena cadre, after interrogation. He was arrested on charge of vandalizing a microbus at Dhumbarahi.
