The crowd had entered into the hospital with the intention to avenge the deaths of seven policemen who were killed by a mob of Tharuhat supporters on Monday. Seven security personnel and a minor were killed in a mob lynching when Tharuhat protesters, armed with domestic weapons, attacked them.Out of the 46 injured admitted in the Tikapur-based District Hospital, three were Tharuhat activists and the rest were security personnel.
According to Basu Dev Bajagain, a public health inspector at District Public Health Office (DPHO), Kailali, the hospital administration sought help of the police to protect the injured Tharuhat activists after an angry group of people started looking for Tharuhat activists. "We asked the police to take away injured Tharuhat activists as a huge crowd entered into the hospital and started searching for them with a motive of revenge," said Bajagain. He said that all Tharuhat activists were recuperating well.
However, all the injured police personnel were airlifted to Nepalgunj for further treatment on Monday evening itself. The hospital informed that seven police personnel were in critical condition when they were being taken to Nepalgunj.
"Fearing that the situation there might turn violent, other patients undergoing treatment are asking the hospital administration to discharge them," said Bajagain, adding that even the staffers of the hospital are terrified because of the growing tension in Tikapur.
Meanwhile, supporters of undivided far-west have set the houses of local Tharu leaders on fire. Rumors that Tharuhat activists have been gathering in nearby villages has only fueled tensions further.
