Police Inspector of Parsa district Sujan Joshi said the goods -- that originally had made in India labels but were tampered -- were seized from a storage house of Laxmi Prasad Shrestha located at Ganesh Man Singh Chowk. [break]
“Those were on the process of being illegally re-exported,” Joshi said, disclosing various documents.
Interestingly documents showed the illicit traders had acquired a certificate of origin (CoO) for those goods from Lalitpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) to prove that the consignments were produced in Nepal. Whereas, the seized tampered tags reads that the goods were made in India and were meant strictly for sale in the Nepali market.
“Papers show that the Capital Export -- a trading firm based in Thamel, Kathmandu -- had dispatched goods to Sakil Ahamed, a Pakistani nationality,” said Joshi.
According to Joshi, the goods are in the Office of the Department of Revenue Investigation (DRI) at Pathliaya for further investigation. "There are more than 55 thousands items of cosmetic goods in the truck," police inspector Joshi told Republica. He said further facts on the case will be known after the DRI office completes the investigation.
The police had reached in the storage house on a tip off. “We will scrutinize the inspection in the Birgunj customs point,” Joshi said
