JALESHWOR, Dec 16: Five people were injured after a clash that ensued between the police personnel and local residents of Ramgopalpur Municipality in Mahottari district on Thursday.

Superintendent of Police (SP) at District Police Office, Mahottari, Krishna Pangeni said that two police personnel, two Armed Police Force personnel and a city police of Ramgopalpur Municipality were injured in the clash.

The clash occurred after a dispute took a violent turn as the family of Dr Pankaj Chaudhary prevented his spouse Neha Chaudhary from entering the house that lies in the Ward Number 5 of the municipality.

Neha had reached there following an order of the district court that ordered the family of Dr Pankaj to let Neha enter into the house.

The Mahottari District Court on December 12 had issued a protective order in favor of Neha upon hearing a case of domestic violence and dowry against her husband.  But, the house was padlocked as Neha reached there on Thursday.

The local residents on Thursday staged a protest asking the police and administration to create a conducive environment for Neha’s entry into the house.

Repeated clashes occurred as the local residents resorted to vandalism accusing the Mayor of Ramgopalpur of giving protection to the family members of Dr Pankaj.

However, the officials have said that agitations were not required as Dr Pankaj has been held by police and investigations are ongoing on different cases including the domestic violence after Neha sought legal remedy.

Currently, the situation in Ramgopalpur is tense and a large number of security forces have been mobilized.  Neha’s parents had paid more than Rs 5 million to Dr Pankaj when the two got married last February. However, Dr Pankaj is accused of giving physical and mental tortures and expelling Neha from house seeking more dowry including a house in the federal capital city, Kathmandu.
