Police arrest two suspects of Saptari rape case

KATHMANDU, Sep 18: Police have arrested two suspects for their alleged involvement in raping a teenage girl at Dakneshwari Municipality-7 in Saptari district on Monday.

KATHMANDU, Sep 18: Police have arrested two suspects for their alleged involvement in raping a teenage girl at Dakneshwari Municipality-7 in Saptari district on Monday.


A police squad from the Saptari District Police Office arrested Suman Kumar Mandal and Saroj Kumar Mandal in suspision of their involvement in raping a 17-year-old girl. They were arrested from the Nepal-India border, said police.

According to Inspector Santosh Khadka, the arrested were hiding in the Nepal-India border region after “raping” the teenager. “Preliminary investigation shows that the arrested are also involved in raping the teenagers. Two other culprits are still on the loose,” he said, adding that the teenager was raped by four boys in a sugarcane field.


Meanwhile, the vicim committed suicide after failing to get justice. According to the District Police Office, Saptari, the girl committed suicide after the villagers obstructed her from registering a case against the rapists. The victim’s family was reportedly put under pressure to seek compensation from the accused.
