Nanda Subba Gurung of Chhorepatan bought 2 tolas of gold after staying in queue for more than an hour. “I saved around Rs 20,000,” a beaming Nanda told Republica.
Traders in Pokhara sold gold at Rs 50,000 per tola on Tuesday. The price was Rs 3,000 per tola less compared to Monday.
Though most of the big jewelers in the lake city attracted buyers, it was business as usual for small shops.
“Though some people bought gold following drop in prices, many people are still in ´wait and watch´ mood,” Nirmal Diyali, secretary of Kaski Gold and Silver Dealers´ Association, said.
Diyali, who had bough 2.5 kg of gold to open an outlet in Mahendrapul, had to suffer huge loss after gold price went down drastically. “I lost around Rs 1.5 million,” Diyali said, ruing that jewelers are not gold in sufficient quantity. “I would have recovered the lost amount had I got gold in sufficient quantity today.”
Pushpa Man Budhhacharya, manager of United Gold Mart, jewelers have been unable to meet the surging demand.
