Poet Devkota remembered

KATHMANDU, Nov 5: Nepal Sanskritik Sangh, a cultural association, recalled the contribution of Mahakavi Laxmi Prasad Devkota at a function organised to commemorate his 101st birth anniversary.



Speaking on the occasion, litterateur Prof Dr Kumar Bahadur Joshi said Mahakavi Devkota is the first Nepali to introduce the Nepali literature in the international level and promoting the international literature among the Nepali readers by translating it into the Nepali language.[break]



He said although the Mahakavi produced creations in almost all literary genres, his specialty lies in the creation of poetry and epic poetry in particular.



President of the association Govinda Dev Panta said Devkota was a talented personality from childhood and he established himself as a world-class writer by studying the world situation at that time.



General secretary of the association, Nripendranath Rimal described the Mahakavi as the veteran poet with a deep study of the contemporary spiritual, oriental and occidental society and literature.



Various poets read out poems dedicated to the late Mahakavi on the occasion.
