KATHMANDU, Oct 30: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has stressed the need of bringing the Nepal Sambat into practice as the government has already decided to recognize it as a national calendar.
While unveiling a statue of Shankhadhar Sakhwa, the founding father of Nepal Sambat amidst a special ceremony at Thankot on the occasion of the Nepal Sambat 1137 today, the Prime Minister said the Nepal Sambat is the country's original calendar, emphasizing the need of collective efforts to bring it into official practice.
Stating that the government was actively working to seek a ground for meaningful enforcement of the constitution, he said the process to amend the country's main law was already in the progress.
The Prime Minister further said the successful completion of the post- earthquake reconstruction efforts and the promotion of good governance were among the areas of focus of the government, he said the government has laid special priority to the widening of the Thankot-Kalanki road section.
Lawmakers Rupa Maharjan and Bhimsen Das Pradhan, former minister of state Dilip Maharjan spoke of the importance of Nepal Sambat.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister said the constitution amendment proposal would be brought with the consent of all political parties. Addressing a Deusi Bhailo program organized by the Reporters Club on the occasion of Tihar festival, he said the protection of achievements so far was possible only through the organising of three-tier's election. Acceleration of the post-earthquake reconstruction works falls in the government's priority, he said.
The country could reap benefits from the development of its neighbor, he said while insisting on a balanced relationship with the country's two close neighbors. RSS
