KATHMANDU, Feb 27: Vice chairman of CPN-UML  Bishnu Prasad Paudel has said that Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s warning to sack the party’s ministers forced them to quit the government.

He said that the UML withdrew support from the government after several tactics were used to exert pressure on the CPN-UML to quit the government.

Vice Chairman Paudel said that PM Dahal has warned that if the CPN-UML does not leave the government, he will immediately dismiss the ministers or even appoint departmental ministers without them. He alleged that Prime Minister Dahal demonstrated immaturity by stopping Foreign Minister Bimala Rai Poudyal, who was about to visit Geneva, at the eleventh hour.

Vice Chairman Poudel claimed that stopping her from representing the nation at the last moment had an adverse effect on the dignity of the nation. Earlier, UML had announced to remain in the government till March 9 during the nomination of presidential candidature. The presidential election is scheduled to be held on March 9.

Vice chairman Paudel said, "We have taken this decision because PM Dahal did not proceed according to the agreement of December 25 and exerted pressure on us to leave the government."

He said, "The way prime minister behaved towards the CPN-UML recently and the way he stopped Minister Bimala Rai Paudyal from going to Geneva, we could not stay in the government after he made the statement that UML would be kept as a departmental minister if it does  not leave  the government . So, we have decided to withdraw from the government. It has adversely affected the dignity of the nation.”

Vice Chairman Paudel also accused Prime Minister Dahal of not wanting political stability in the country as he was not ready to honor the agreement reached with the party earlier.
