KATHMANDU, Aug 26: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has pledged to take necessary initiatives to address the demands of Dr Govinda KC.
Talking to a delegation of doctors headed by Dr KC at PM's Baluwatar residence this morning, Prime Minister Dahal said, "My assumption is that the state should take up the responsibility of basic needs of the people such as health and education.
It is however difficult to address all issues within the current political culture, administrative mechanism and regulations".
Noting that he was impressed by the model adopted by Sri Lanka on education and health, PM said, "Sri Lanka is not a socialist, communist country. But the state has taken full responsibility for health and education. We can also adopt the modality in Nepal".
The Prime Minister said the struggle of Dr KC has created a new wave of consciousness in society and also keep the state alert, briefed PM's personal under-secretary Manohari Timilsina.
During the meet, Dr KC noted he had broken his hunger strike of late at the request of PM Dahal and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and urged the PM to seriously take his demands for health sector reforms. RSS
