PM Oli violates election code of conduct, EC warns of action

KATHMANDU, May 19: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has violated the election code of conduct indirectly, asking the National Assembly by-election voters to vote for Ram Bahadur Thapa during the silence period.


The Election Commission has indirectly mentioned in a press statement that PM Oli has violated the election code of conduct by asking to vote for Ram Bahadur Thapa, a candidate for National Assembly byelection scheduled for Thursday.

The EC has also warned of legal action against those defying the election code of conduct.


“All preparations for the election have already been made and the silence period of election has already begun from Monday midnight,” reads the press statement.


The EC has also urged one and all to abide by the election code of conduct and not to do any kind of activities to seek votes during the silence period.
