KATHMANDU, Jan 10: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli will address the National Assembly meeting this afternoon.

This is the first time PM Oli is addressing the upper house of the federal parliament after the government dissolved  the House of Representatives or the lower house of parliament nearly three weeks ago.

According to the PM’s secretariat, the prime minister is scheduled to address the National Assembly meeting at 1PM today.

Following the dissolution of the lower house and the announcement of midterm elections, the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) witnessed its vertical split as the already-strained ties between the two rival factions of the party further deepened . The Oli-led faction is backing the dissolution of the House while the other faction led by Puspha Kamal Dahal and Madhav Kumar Nepal is firmly opposing the government’s move and demanding the restoration of parliament. At least 13 writ petitions filed against the dissolution of parliament are sub judice at the Supreme Court. The apex court has yet to give verdict on writ petitions.
