KATHMANDU, April 8: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has lauded the role played by the Nepal Army in the fight against novel coronavirus. The Prime Minister said this in a message sent to the newly-commissioned officer cadets completing officer cadet basic course at the Nepali Military Academy, Kharipati, Bhaktapur. A total of 132 cadets including four foreign nationals completed the 48th batch of the course today.
In his message, PM Oli directed the Nepal Army and other security agencies to maintain mutual coordination and remain cautious to overcome the possible pandemic of different kinds in the future. "Nepal Army's role in rescuing embattled Nepali nationals from China and properly managing them in quarantine at Kharipati was laudable. All security agencies should work in tandem to tackle various security challenges likely to emerge in future", the PM noted.
How to help vulnerable groups
Stating that the Nepal Army has always established itself as a professional and dignified force under the domain and directive of constitutional government, he said the organization has also been working among the people in disaster management, infrastructure development, expansion of citizen-military relations and during the time of national emergency.
"The national army has been discharging its duty ever being loyal to Nepal and Nepalis and it has been developed as a competent and multi-dimensional organization to carry out various national and international responsibilities in different capacities". The message of the Prime Minister was read out on the occasion.
In the ceremony, Chief of Army Staff Purna Chandra Thapa congratulated newly-recruited officers and directed to perform their duties to maintain the trust of the country and people, assuring the security of their own and their subordinates.
Keeping in mind the threat stemming from COVID-19, the ceremony was held placing high alert measures with the presence of limited number of people.
