KATHMANDU, Feb 20: At a time when the government is drawing flak from all quarters for allegedly removing Pashupati Sharma’s satirical song from YouTube, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli defended it saying that the government has no hand in removing it.

Addressing a provincial assembly meeting of the Sudurpashchim Province on Wednesday, Prime Minister stated that the song was removed from the video sharing website by people after they did not like it, terming the accusations against the government as ‘baseless’.

“We, at times, are carried away by our trivial whims over minor issues and go frenzy about it unnecessarily without caution. Someone mistakenly composed a song, “Lootna Sake Loot Kanchha, Nepal Mai Chha Chhut,” (Rob if you can, it is allowed only in Nepal). People did not like it and removed it from YouTube,” said Oli.

Meanwhile, Oli also objected to lawmaker Amaresh Kumar Sing for offering Rs 25,000 in prize for the song. “Another lawmaker praised the song describing it as didactically grand and as it quite suits our Nepali culture which is mired in deceptions and frauds,” commented Oli, questioning himself where are we heading to?

Oli also blamed the lyricist to have been carried away while writing the song.

“The lyricist, I believe, was emotional while creating the song and uploaded it on YouTube in haste.  After it courted controversy, it was removed. Simple...not a big fuss!,” he said, adding, “The government has not passed any comments over it. The only concern of the government is to take up the right path to achieve the goal of prosperity.”
