KATHMANDU, June 28: The Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has praised the “public shaming” movement led by celebrities on social media, which involves sharing the names and photos of individuals who make offensive and hateful remarks online.
Taking to Facebook on Saturday, PM Oli stated that society needs to be protected from the sadistic tendency of insulting others, constantly opposing, or cursing things just to appear superior. He added that society must not be led astray by provocation but be guided toward reason and awareness.

He remarked that the approach taken by singers Samikshya Adhikari and Eleena Chauhan—exposing those who spread hate—seems appropriate. Pointing out the growing trend of abusing anyone who initiates something positive, Oli emphasized that those striving to do good should not lose courage.
Prime Minister Oli wrote, “To appear good by blaming others, to oppose and curse everything—these sadistic tendencies must be removed from society. Society must not be led down the wrong path through provocation but rather be steered toward reason. The method adopted by these two singers—exposing those who abuse others—seems right. The tendency to attack everyone who takes a positive initiative has gone too far. Those trying to do good must not lose courage.”
The celebrities have begun publicly shaming those who make hateful or offensive remarks on their social media pages by revealing their names and photos. The trend was first started by actor Reecha Sharma a few months ago and is now being followed by other celebrities.
