PM Oli accuses former King of attempting to disrupt social harmony

KATHMANDU, March 31: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli stated that the Tinkune incident occurred because former King Gyanendra Shah has been attempting to disrupt social harmony and create division in society for the past few years.


Speaking in the House of Representatives (HoR) on Monday, he accused the former king of aligning with individuals who refuse to repay bank loans and of stirring social unrest for his own ambitions. Oli said that the Tinkune incident was the result of these actions.

“The alleged organizers attempted to drive a vehicle over the police and breached the restricted area. There were terrorist activities like setting fire to the international airport and the oil corporation's depot,” PM Oli said, “Setting fire to someone's house, looting a shopping mall, and setting fire to a herbal company cannot be considered political activities.”


He said that the Home Minister will provide detailed information about the incident to the House at an appropriate time and a detailed report will be prepared in some time.


He said that an analysis from a year ago is necessary for the current incident. “An analysis from a year ago is necessary. There was an attempt to incite public rage by spreading excitement on sensitive issues like religion, culture, and tradition,” PM Oli said, “The former king invited those unruly individuals to his home and appointed a so-called commander.”
