Addressing a national convention of women journalists in Kathmandu, Nepal warned that such a move could act as a hurdle to forging consensus among the political parties. [break]
The prime minister also urged the Maoists to withdraw their ´irresponsible´ move of declaring autonomous states as it would render the Constituent Assembly (CA) meaningless.
He said the Maoists´ declaration of the autonomous states will affect interim constitution, political consensus and the jurisdiction of the Constituent Assembly.
The Maoists on Friday announced two federal states -- Kochila and Limbuwan -- despite criticism from various quarters. Other political parties have termed the Maoist declaration has breached Comprehensive Peace Accord (CPA).
The Maoists plan to declare two more autonomous states -- Seti-Mahakali and Tharuwan -- in the western part of the country on Sunday. The Maoists are scheduled to declare more autonomous states in the week ahead.
Meanwhile, President Dr Ram Baran Yadav during his meeting with the prime minister on Friday evening expressed concerns about the Maoist declaration of autonomous states, arguing that it would disturb social harmony.
The prime minister alleged that the Maoists were trying to overshadow the constitution drafting process by obstructing House business. He argued that the government could not find consensus as the Maoists are bent on inviting confrontation.
