During a bilateral discussion on traffic management at the Prime Minister´s Office, Bhattarai instructed the concerned authorities to come up with necessary short and long term policies for reducing the traffic congestion in the Valley.[break]
The Nepal Army has been using the Maitighar-Bhadrakali public road since it was blocked during the height of Maoist insurgency.
Talking to Republica, Deputy Inspector of Police (DIG), Ganesh Rai, said opening of the section would ease the traffic management.
However, Army Spokesperson Ramindra Chettri, said that the process to open the road section will move ahead only after the official process. “We still haven´t received the information, but, we will ahead according to the official procedure,” he said.
DIG Rai added that lack of proper coordination among different government authorities is also contributing to the traffic woes. “Government should come up with new policies like change in the timings of schools and offices, and division of responsibilities among concerned stakeholders,” Rai said.
PM Bhattarai also directed Ministry of Labor and Transport Management to resume the Sajha Yatayat bus service and devise policies for parking management.
Stating that there could be lapses in government policies, PM Bhattarai directed Chief Secretary Madhav Ghimire to amend the existing policies if required. Similarly, he directed Ghimire to ensure that the general public doesn´t face any problem due to the travel of high-ranking personalities.
Likewise, he had directed Kathmandu Metropolitan City to remove all hoarding boards from various parts of the Valley within a week.
