In the meeting, Finance Minister Surendra Pandey shared a tentative outline of the programs that he wanted to incorporate in the proposed budget. [break]
According to a participant in the joint meeting, Pandey shared that he wanted to increase investment in the agricultural sector and that he would invest at least 18 percent of the money received as remittance.
“He said he is planning to introduce a special program to address electricity crisis. He also said that as a part of initiatives to curtail corruption he wanted to install CCTVs at some public utilities like Tribhuvan International Airport,” said Deepak Raj Ghimire, who represented Nepal Family Party in the meeting.
After installation of CCTVs in the public places, one can observe activities taking place there directly from the Prime Minister´s Office.
According to Ghimire, the finance minister is for giving continuity to existing projects, including Kathmandu-Tarai Fast-Track road, Hulaki Road [postal highway], Upper-Tamakoshi and Upper-Trishuli hydro projects, among others.
Leaders from 15 political parties, including Pashupati Shamsher Rana of Rastriya Prajatantra Party, CP Mainali of CPN (ML), Rameshwar Ray of MPRF (D), Keshav Mainali of Chure Bhawar Rastriya Ekata Party, Mahendra Ray of TMDP and Chandra Dev Joshi of CPN (Samyukta) gave their feedbacks to the prime minister and finance minister.
