While addressing the closed session of UCPN (Maoist)’s seventh general convention in Hetauda, PM Bhattarai, who is also the party’s vice-chairman, maintained that the bilateral trade agreement was necessary to attract foreign investments to the country.[break]
On Tuesday, another Vice-chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha had criticized the BIPPA for ‘failing to safeguard national interest’, while signing the deal.
“Foreign investment is essential as huge investment is required for economic transformation of the country. The country cannot achieve economic development through small industries,” Bhattarai remarked.
“India has been undermining Nepal purely due to the country’s sluggish economic growth. The situation could change if we economically transform our country,” Bhattarai clarified.
Meanwhile, group-wise deliberation over the political document presented by party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has entered into its last stage.
40 of the 63 group leaders presented their concluding remarks on the document on Tuesday. The remaining 13 groups are to complete their deliberation today, on completion of which Chairman Dahal will respond to queries put forth by convention representatives.
