PM Dahal to pledge press freedom in House

KATHMANDU, Dec 28:The talks between Minister for Information and Communication Krishna Bahadur Mahara and Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) ended in Kathmandu Sunday with an agreement that the Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal will make a commitment at the parliament on press freedom and security.



The government has also agreed that all 25 political parties represented in the constituent assembly will make a similar pledge to press freedom and security.

Also, the government has agreed that the Home Minister will issue a circular to administrations in all 75 districts to take action against those barring the freedom of the press or posing security threat to the press.



An agreement has also been reached to resume publication of Kantipur and The Kathmandu Post dailies from Biratnagar from Monday.

Earlier, the publication management had agreed to meet the legitimate demands of workers.



The talks between the minister and FNJ had started at 8 a.m. today.
