PM Dahal holds meeting with UDMF leaders

KATHMANDU, Jan 24: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal  Dahal has held a meeting with the leaders of the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) at the former’s official residence in Baluwatar on Tuesday.

KATHMANDU, Jan 24: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal  Dahal has held a meeting with the leaders of the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) at the former’s official residence in Baluwatar on Tuesday.


According to Manohari Timalsina, Prime Minister Dahal’s aide, the meeting dwelled on the two agendas - constitution amendment and local elections.


Prime Minister Dahal has called the meeting in a bid to forge agreement among the political parties on the bills tabled in Parliament and the election date for local bodies.

Two election-related Bills were tabled in Parliament today. The House meeting called for 2 pm tomorrow will endorse them, paving the way for holding local elections.


Prime Minister Dahal had said that the date for local elections will be announced within this week so as to conduct local elections by May 8, 2017.


Prime Minister Puspa Kamal Dahal, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Bimalendra Nidhi, CPN (Maoist Center) leader Ram Bahadur Thapa, Matrika Prasad Yadav, UDMF leaders Rajendra Mahato, Upendra Yadav, Laxman Lal Karna, among others, were  present in the meeting.
