KATHMANDU, April 2: Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal on Friday called for sincere efforts and flexibility from all sides for fulfilling the main national agenda of establishing lasting peace and drafting new Constitution.

“All should be serious and arrive at an appropriate way out regarding the modality of federation and governance system in a dispassionate manner,” PM Nepal said.[break] The PM expressed this view in a meeting with a delegation of the Reporters’ Club Nepal.

Scoffing at rumors that the Constituent Assembly would be dissolved if the new Constitution is not promulgated on May 28, he said suggested that the term of the Constituent Assembly could be extended by few months to prepare the draft of the constitution and complete it.

PM Nepal said although the regressive forces have hatched conspiracies of reviving the monarchy taking advantage of the differences and misunderstanding among the political parties, their ‘daydream’ will never be fulfilled.

He also ruled out any possibility of imposition of President’s rule or the staging of a military coup.

Responding to journalists’ query regarding reports that the Unified CPN (Maoist) was preparing for a revolt, PM Nepal said: “This is unfortunate for the country and the Maoist itself will be boycotted by the people in such situation.”

Stating there is no question of his resigning as he commands a clear majority in the Legislature-Parliament, he said the 22 parties that support his government have given him the responsibility of drafting the constitution by 28 May and also of implementing that constitution. “This is merely a rumor spread by the main opposition to grab the attention of its cadres,” he said.

The prime minister said the integration of the Maoist combatants will be completed in the coming 30 days.

He further said that the Maoist should not try to escape from its responsibility outlined in the peace agreement by coming up with fresh demands from time to time against the past agreements.
