PM, Bhattarai face contempt of court charge

KATHMANDU, APRIL 8: Journalist Murari Kuamr Sharma on Thursday moved the Supreme Court with a contempt of court application, asking the court to punish Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Finance Minister Dr Babu Ram Bhattarai, among others on the charge of speaking against the court’s stay order on the retirement of eight brigadier generals.



Sharma has accused Dahal, Dr Bhattarai, Maoist leaders Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Sagar and Shalik Ram Jammakattel of showing disrespect to the judges and the court in the aftermath of the stay order on March 24.

Maoists took to the streets and burned judges in the effigy following the stay order that let the eight brigadier generals who the government had retired, to continue their jobs.


Finance Minister Bhattarai had even accused the judges of conspiring against loktantra (republic).
