An official at the Cantonment Management Office said the allowance distribution is due to be begun from Chulachuli cantonment in Ilam.
The government´s decision came amidst Maoist speculation that the former is going to stop the combatants´ salary, saying the allowance may not be reaching to intended combatants.
Previously, government ministers, including Peace Minister Rakam Chemjong, had publicly said the government would not release the combatants´ salary until the United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) provides information and current number of the People´s Liberation Army (PLA).
According to officials at the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction, the government is planning to have a mechanism of civil society members and international human rights organizations to witness the salary distribution.
The government is mulling for such a witness mechanism amidst speculation of misuse of funds allocated for salary of combatants.
Chemjong is holding a meeting on Thursday with civil society members and representatives from international human rights organizations on forming such a mechanism, said another official at the ministry.
