KATHMANDU, June 8: At a time when the PLA personnel deployed for the security of the hard-line faction leaders have refused to hand over their weapons to the party headquarters and return to the cantonments, PLA personnel from the party establishment have also expressed reservations over the party´s move to “obliterate the existence of the PLA”.

PLA commanders have expressed reservations over the party´s move to turn the PLA into a non-combatant force, which, the commanders have argued would be a humiliation for the PLA personnel.[break]

“We may not be able to resist pressure from the PLA personnel against integration if the party decides to surrender, obliterating PLA´s existence,” a division commander, who is close to Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, told Republica.

Senior party leaders said they have called a meeting of PLA commanders on Wednesday to clarify the party´s stance on handover of weapons and return of PLA personnel to the cantonments.

“The meeting has been called to inform the PLA commanders about the party´s latest decisions on integration,” Mahendra Bahadur Shahi, sixth division commander, told Republica.

Over 150 senior PLA commanders will participate in the meeting to be addressed by Chairman Dahal.

According to sources, the stance of party hard-line faction to not end the dual security without first working on the modality for integration has drawn sympathy of PLA personnel.

Baidya faction has written a note of dissent against the party´s decision to end dual security being provided to party senior leaders. The faction has argued that ending the dual security system for senior Maoist leaders without first fixing the modality for integration and chalking out national security policy is tantamount to surrender.
