PJC calls entries for photo contest

KATHMANDU, May 20: The Photo Journalists Club (PJC) is holding the IME Global IME Bank Nepal Photo Contest and Exhibition 2069 it describes as the biggest event of its kind featuring professional photographers, journalists and amateur photographers from across the country.



According to a press statement issued by the PJC today, the competition will be held in seven different categories – Daya Foundation Culture and Tourism, Naturally Nepal Wildlife and Nature, Samsung Galaxy S4 Daily Life, Shikhar Shoe News Photo, RJ Sports, PLO Lubricants Nepal Smile and Photo Story, with a total cash prize of Rs 520,000 – the biggest so far – for this year. The participants can submit their photographs and also learn about the rules of the competition on the club´s website, http://www.pjclub.com.np. The photos for the competition should be submitted by 12 am on Ashadh 1, 2070. Only photographs taken in Nepal and by Nepali citizens will be considered for the competition.



The top three photographs in each of the seven categories will be awarded Rs 30,000, Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively. Likewise, the ´IME Global IME Bank Photo of the Year´ will be selected from among all the photos in the competition and will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 100,000.







A total of 150 best photographs selected from the competition will be displayed for five days in Kathmandu and will also be put in photo exhibitions in four major cities of Nepal – Biratnagar, Pokhara, Nepalgunj and Dhangadhi.



According to the club, only photographs taken in the year 2069 can be part of the contest in the News Photo category, while photos taken in any year can be submitted for competition in the other six categories. However, photographers cannot submit photos that have been declared winners in other competitions or in previous editions of this contest. A competitor can submit three photographs in every category, and a maximum of two photo stories comprising two to 12 photographs each.



There are six members in the Jury Panel. Senior photojournalist Gopal Chitrakar led as a jury chair likewise South Asia and India´s Senior photojournalist Raghu Rai, senior Photographer Mani Lama, Editor of Kantipur Daily Sudhir Sharma, Co Head / Asst Professor of Kathmandu University, School of Arts Sujan Chitrakar and PJ Club´s Chairman Prakash Mathema as a jury member of this IME Global IME Bank Nepal Photo Contest 069.



The club has already organized two editions of the photo competition. More than 800 photographers from across the country had submitted over 7200 photographs for the competition held in five different categories. Photo exhibitions were later held in five major cities of the country.



The event´s title sponsors are IME and Global IME Bank Mega Bank, while Nepal Tourism Board, Samsung Galaxy S4, Daya Foundation, RJ Sports, Shikhar Shoe and PLO Lubricants have sponsored one category each. Himalaya Expedition, WWF, Raaika Tours, ESewa, Fone Pay, Buddha Air and Hotel Marshyangdi Mandala have also supported the event. Likewise, Sajha Media Space and Micro Media are the publicity partners of the event, Photo Hollywood is the photo print partner, and Fine Print and Prisma Advertising are the publishing partners while the event management partner is Orange Event.

Categories


Samsung Galaxy S4 Daily life: Daily life photos are those images that capture the daily life of people and reflect contemporary issues. They are memories and tell stories that make meaningful portraits and works of art.



Naturally Nepal Nature and wildlife:
The images that capture the beauty of wildlife: flora, fauna and the living beings in the wild. The images could be of plants and animals, geological processes, weather conditions, water, wild animals, rocks, forest, and any kind of ‘natural environment’.

Daya Foundation Culture and tourism: Nepal is proud of its culture – and it is also the main attraction for tourism. The photos that capture the essence of the culture and those images that can promote Nepal as a tourism destination, either places or activities, are ideal for the category.



Shikhar Shoe News photo: Photos that tells the news – an event of importance in politics, social, business or sports. The photos must be current and mean something to the people. For this category, only photos taken in the Year 2069 are eligible. It could be published or unpublished photos.



RJ Sports Photo:
The photographs that capture the defining moments of a sporting event or competition. It could also be participants of the sports events – players, coaches, officials, fans, people and anything directly or indirectly related to sports.



PLO Lubricants Nepal Smiles: The photos in a ´feel good´ mood that instills a feeling of happiness and hope for better future to the people. Preferably those photos are smiling children enjoying whatsoever they are doing. Please note that the purpose of this category is to raise charity for social initiative working to bring smiles in the faces of deprived A separate terms and conditions apply for the photos submitted in this category.



Photo story: Photographs stand a witness to life in moments of joy and drama. This category recognizes the effort of those photographers that provides a window to the otherwise invisible events outside the reach of the "civilized" world. The photographs in series expose the crude realities and tragedies of anything: it may be the story of neediest and malnutrition, their unsafe living conditions, lack of educational opportunities, and much more.
