KATHMANDU, June 29: The National Paddy Day was observed today across the country.
It is celebrated annually on Asadh 15, according to the Nepali calendar. It holds a great significance for the common people as the country's economy is dominated by agriculture. Asadh 15 marks the beginning of paddy plantation during the monsoon season in Nepal.

Farmers say that the Paddy Day has been gradually losing its charm in recent years due to multiple factors. A major factor behind the decline in the paddy production is the rapid urbanization and haphazard construction of houses, according to farmers. Acute shortage of manpower has also led to diminishing paddy production in the country.
