Kathmandu, Sept 14: A unique joint exhibition by Hri Institute for Southasian Research and Exchange, and Madan Puraskar Pustakalaya – ‘Lived Stories, Everyday Lives’ and ‘The Election and the Referendum’ – that’s being held at Nepal Art Council in Babar Mahal inspires nostalgia.

‘Lived Stories, Everyday Lives’ put in display images from private collections from across South Asia. Showcasing the art of archiving and its intrinsic value to daily life, it is a travelling exhibition that was previously showcased in India, and will next travel to Bangladesh. The photographs on display comprised of images taken of postcards, newspaper ads, letters, family albums and studio albums that tell the stories of everyday lives as well as extraordinary events in the lives of ordinary people. ‘The Election and the Referendum’, on the other hand, showcased exclusive materials from the Madan Puraskar Pustakalaya collection. Interesting posters, pamphlets, publicity flyers, newspaper articles and editorials from the Kathmandu Municipal Election of June 1947, General Election of February 1959 and Referendum of May 1980 were on display.

The exhibition opened on September 12, and is coming to a conclusion today.
