KATHMANDU, Dec 1 : Maria Leonor G. Robredo, the vice president of Philippines, has stressed the need for taking collective efforts to ensure lasting peace in the Asia Pacific region.
Addressing the ongoing Asia Pacific Summit in the capital on Saturday, Robredo said that collaboration is essential among the countries in the region for sustainable peace and development.
She said that leadership should understand the importance of people’s participation in the decision-making process. “As we expand our political, economic, social and cultural relations, let’s not forget the daily struggles of those relegated people. People should be taken onboard the decision-making process. People can be critical to their leaders as well,” Robredo said.
“Those relegated people should be represented in the international stage more than ever,” she said.
Pointing out ongoing global challenges such as poverty, illiteracy and under-development, the vice president urged the leaders from Asia Pacific region to bring strategies to tackle such problems.
