KATHMANDU, Aug 8: The Parliamentary Hearing Committee (PHC) of the Federal Parliament has called for complaints against Bishowambhar Prasad Shrestha, who has been proposed as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

A meeting of the PHC held at Singh Durbar on Tuesday called for filing complaints against the proposed Chief Justice Shrestha. The Constitutional Council meeting held on August 3 decided to recommend Shrestha, the senior most justice of the Supreme Court, as the next CJ.

Pashupati SJB Rana, the senior most member of the PHC, said that the PHC had given 10 days time to initiate the hearing process on the same recommendation.

He said, "I propose to inform the public about the proposed Chief Justice and if the proposed person is found unsuitable for the proposed post, it has been decided to issue 10 days notice as per the rules of procedure of the parliamentary hearing and the hearing will start at the committee meeting after 10 days."

After former CJ Hari Krishna Karki retired on August 5 due to age limit, the process of appointing a new CJ started. There is a constitutional provision that the President appoints the CJ after the approval of the PHC.
