People above 55 years to be prioritized in the upcoming vaccination campaign

KATHMANDU, July 12:  The Family Welfare Division of the Department of Health Services has said that the priority will be determined on the basis of age group in the upcoming vaccination campaign.

As the National Vaccination Action Plan has a policy of vaccinating on the basis of age group so people will be vaccinated accordingly, the Vaccination Branch of the Family Welfare Division stated.

Chief of Vaccination Branch Dr Jhalak Gautam said, "Age group will be the basis for vaccination priority." He said that no decision was made on the age for the vaccination priority till Sunday evening and the decision will be taken on Monday.

Upendra Dhuganna, Chief of the Logistic Management Section of the Department, said that the age group above 60 to 64 years were vaccinated and some are yet to be vaccinated. The  vaccines now will be given to other age groups including those who did not get the shots earlier.

As many as 1.5 million doses of the vaccine received on Monday from the United States will be used for the campaign.

Similarly, 4.5 million doses of the vaccine will arrive from China. Dhungana informed that since the number of people aged above 55 years is less than 3.5 million people belonging to other age groups are also likely to receive vaccines this time.
