POKHARA, March 7: Patients in Western Regional Hospital in Pokhara have started leaving the hospital after police who were already on the hospital premises fired a tear gas shell into the hospital, according to our correspondent Manoj Adhikari. [break]

The shell fired into the pediatric ward has mostly affected children and nursing mothers. The situation in the hospital became tense after nine-year-old Akriti Gurung of Phulbari-9, who had come walking to be admitted in the hospital, died Friday night after being administered an anti-rabies injection. A dog had bitten the girl earlier.
The family of the girl went to the hospital Saturday morning and started demonstration, demanding action against the doctor involved. The hospital management called in police who fired teargas to disperse the crowd at the hospital.
This has created panic in the hospital and many patients, including those already admitted, have started leaving. A 14-member probe team under Dr Kalu Sharma has been formed to look into the circumstances that led to the girl´s death.
