CHITWAN, March 7: The infection of 'parvovirus' has been found in dogs raised in the Chitwan district. According to the Veterinary Hospital and Livestock Services Expert Center Chitwan, the infection of the virus has been observed in dogs kept in different places of the district.

Dr Prabhat Neupane, information officer of the center, said that 30 to 40 percent of the dogs brought to the hospital for treatment were found to have the virus. This problem has come with the change in weather. He said that although pet dogs were brought for treatment, no one paid attention to the treatment of stray dogs on the streets. He says that this disease is seen in dogs that are left alone with pets.

He said that dogs infected with Parvovirus show symptoms such as loss of appetite, diarrhea, and blood clots. Although parvovirus is not usually dangerous, dogs can die if left untreated. This problem occurs when the dog is not vaccinated regularly. Neupane said that if the dog is given five regular vaccinations called DHLPP, such infections will not occur. He said that this kind of problem is seen because most of the pet dogs do not practice regular vaccination.

Veterinarian doctors recommend that puppies should receive regular vaccinations against parvovirus at six to eight weeks of age.
