A meeting of NC Parliamentary Party (PP) held on Wednesday unanimously picked Champa Devi Khadka, the wife of late CA member Hari Khadka, as the party's candidate for the by-election to be held on April 11. The by-election is being held after elected CA member Khadka from the constituency died in a car accident.
Khadka, whose car overturned in a muddy road at Bhakunde in Baglung district, on December 4, 2014, died four days later while undergoing treatment at the Kathmandu-based Neuro Hospital. He was on his way to Piunpata VDC to attend a religious function.
The main opposition party, the UCPN (Maoist), has already picked the party's spokesperson Dinanath Sharma as its candidate for the by-election. A meeting of the 30-party opposition alliance had formally endorsed Sharma's candidacy for by-election.
Likewise, the UML has picked Man Kumari KC as the party's candidate for by-election. Interestingly, KC was already in the proportional list of CA election held in November 19, 2013.
UML Party Secretary Pradip Gyawali said the UML Standing Committee has already asked Election Commission to remove her name from the PR list following the request of KC. “We have already asked the Election Commission to remove her name from the PR list after she was picked as the party's candidate for the by-election,” said Gyawali.
