Parties flex their muscles as silent hour nears

BIRATNAGAR, June 25: With the last day for election campaign about 12 hours away, all the political parties have intensified their election campaigns using all of their energy in Biratnagar Metropolitan City.

Such election   campaign activities as visiting voters at their residence, mass meetings, disseminating party’s agenda through loud speaker etc. have reached record high today. After 12 o’clock tonight, the period allowed for carrying out election campaign will come to an end. Then a silent period will begin. During the silent period, it is illegal to launch election campaigns.

Nepali Congress is set to organize a mass meeting in Biratnagar Metropolitan City today. More than a dozen of central committee members of NC are scheduled to address the meeting, Nagesh Koirala, Secretary of NC District Committee of Morang district, told Republica Online.

Likewise, other parties such as CPN-UML, CPN(Maoist Center), Federal Socialist Forum Nepal(FSFN), Nepal Democratic Forum(NDF) and Rastriya Prajatantra Party(RPP) are also scheduled to carry out different election campaign activities today despite sweltering heat.

In the local level elections due to be held on June 28, people’s representatives will be elected in 137 local levels of Province 1. Province 1 consists of 14 districts, 137 local bodies and 1157 wards.
