"We have frozen the Kanchanbari land as per the DLRM letter. We have intensified search for his land in other places as well," a DLRO officer said.
The DLRM had issued the letter after a money laundering complaint was filed against Parshuram, the former in-charge of Morang Youth Force, at the Department of Money Laundering Investigations of the Ministry of Finance.
One kattha and five dhur of the frozen land was registered as plot number 4437 and the rest four kattha and eight dhur in plot number 4600. The frozen land is valued at around three million rupees as per current market rates.
The DLRO had started to search for Parshuram´s properties immediately after receiving the DLRM letter Monday. The DLRO source said searches were on for properties registered in the name of Basnet´s first wife Jaya Pokharel (Basnet), second wife Anju Singh and father Gopal Basnet. "We hve been ordered to freeze the properties of Parshuram´s family members as well," the DLRO official added.
Basnet was a driver´s help when he came to Morang from Dolakha and is estimated to have made over Rs 800 million in five years from tenders, smuggling, realty dealers, timber traders, and extortion. After being associated with the CPN-UML´s Youth Force, he intensified his illegal activities and made the millions.
Before absconding, Basnet drove a vehicle that cost nearly Rs 10 million. He has personally gifted some 200 Bajaj Pulsar motorcycles to his supporters.
A source said he has two houses worth Rs 20 million in Biratnagar-15. In the same neighborhood, he owns a hoarding board factory with an estimated worth of Rs 20 million. He also has shares of a mosquito net factory owned by one Kiran Singh Basnet, according to the source.
Basnet is in hiding after mounting an attack on one Abhishek Giri inside Morang District Court compound on June 1 this year. He did not present himself in court even after a 70-day arrest warrant issued by the court expired.
