KATHMANDU, Oct 4: In the past 12 hours, the highest amount of rainfall has been recorded in Birgunj, Parsa. According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Birgunj received 143 millimeters of rain. Bara recorded 140.4 mm, Gaur rainfall station in Rautahat recorded 129 mm, and Maheshpur in Rautahat saw 124 mm of rainfall.
The department has classified the rainfall in Bara and Parsa as "very heavy" and reported that most of the rainfall has occurred in the central region of the country, primarily concentrated in the Tarai. Rainfall was recorded from Nawalparasi in the west to Dhankuta in the east.
Dolpa receives heaviest snowfall in decades: Locals
During this period, 14 districts—including Sindhupalchok, Dolakha, and the Kathmandu Valley—recorded rainfall exceeding 50 millimeters. More than 50 rainfall measurement stations across the country reported between 30 to 50 millimeters of rain.
The department also stated that the ongoing rainfall is due to moisture-laden winds coming from the Bay of Bengal, and there is a growing possibility of another weather system becoming active. As a result, widespread rainfall is expected across many areas tonight as well.
